DHA is vital for normal brain development of the fetus and
infant, and for the maintenance of normal brain function throughout
life. An omega-3 long chain polyunsaturated fatty acid and it is
the primary building block of the human brain tissue and eye, the
human brain is about 60% fat, and DHA is one of the crucial
structural fatty acids in both the brain and the retina.
Approximately 30% of the structural lipid in the gray matter of the
brain is DHA. Thus, it is required for the proper functioning of
the neural systems. Also, many scientists are suggesting
supplementation with omega-3 fatty acids as they have been shown to
contribute to cardiovascular health by lowering and normalizing
certain blood lipids. DHA may lower triglyceride levels and in
some, may elevate HDL cholesterol, the one that is good. Without
taking in fish oils, most vegans and vegetarians have no quality
source of DHA, therefore supplementation is a wise idea for those
wishing to maintain optimal health. One other benefit of these
softgels are that they are now designed to pass through the stomach
more easily to digest in the small intestine - this means better
absorption and less of the "fishy aftertaste" that most people do
not enjoy. Available in two varieties and sizes:
30 softgel bottle (1 month supply) is $13.95, and 90 serving

The BEST
From Nan of Seattle, Washington on .
They changed the formula on these a while ago to add lemon oil. I've used both the old (no lemon oil) and the new version, and these new ones are the absolute best. I think the lemon oil completely gets rid of the fishy burps/aftertaste problem. I've tried a lot of DHA brands, and this is the only one that (in its new formula) never gives me fishy burps. I think the reviewers who commented on algae- or fish-taste tried the older version. This is absolutely the best for me.
made my skin break out
From fisher cat of Brooklyn, New York on .
I gave these a try for a few weeks but I think they made me break out- could be a coincidence, but I'm going to go back to the Spectrum Vegetarian DHA capsules which have worked the best for me so far.
Highly Recommended!!!!
From Molly of College Park, Maryland on .
I started taking these and in only a few days my nails were rock hard and super long! I think my hair feels stronger after a few weeks!! It's great, I really love this DHA.
Stops Migraines!
From Anonymous of Salem, Oregon on .
I've been taking these for about two months, and have noticed the daily migraines dropping off dramatically -- and when one does start, I can usually chase it with an extra Omega-3 and a glass of water.
Algae-flavored burps
From Anonymous of Norman, Oklahoma on .
Since I am vegetarian, I have never tried fish oil supplements, so I can't make a comparison. But this product does cause me to have algae-flavored burps for a while after I take it. It's not the end of the world, but it is mildly unpleasant.
