Salud! For a sustainable, healthy and tasty meal, Asanté gives you alternatives that respect traditional flavors without animal ingredients and with less harm to the planet.
Handcrafted by artisan chefs, Asanté’s proprietary plant-based Barbacoa is slow-cooked with modern culinary techniques to have a unique, juicy, firm, and meaty texture.
Marinated in a rich sauce made from fresh and organic ingredients from local growers, you won't find anything artificial in this delicious meal option. As many abuelitas, taqueros and chefs would say, the secret is in the salsa. Asanté's amazing flavor comes from a unique mix of ingredients including fire-roasted tomato, onion, non-spicy peppers, garlic and more to bring you a true taste of Mexican cuisine anywhere, any time.
Packed with healthy plant-based protein, it's fully cooked and ready in just 1-2 minutes, so you won't have to wait long to enjoy an authentic experience. Pair it with rice, lime, avocado and your favorite tortillas for a true South-of-the-Border experience unlike any other!
12.3 oz. (350g) packages are $8.99 each.

Good flavor
From Anonymous of Lyons, Colorado on .
I made tacos with fresh corn tortillas, radishes, toasted pepitas and homemade guac. I thought the flavor was good, though I’ve not eaten barbacoa. My husband didn’t like the texture, said it was mushy. Maybe a jackfruit base would be better? I’m the veg, he is willing to eat subs but always compares to the ‘real’ thing.
Amazing taste and tender texture
From Deborah Stevens of Furlong, Pennsylvania on .
Served over rice, was very tasty and tender, everyone enjoyed. It does (as the other reviewer pointed out) look like meat, but does not give me a meaty impression while eating. Definitely will buy again and will think of other dishes to prep with Barbacoa be'f.
very tasty
From Richard Rankin of Kirksville, Missouri on .
This is almost too realistic in appearance and texture, but definitely worth trying out if you like Mexican food. It is only mildly spicy, and I would have preferred it a lot hotter, but this would make killer tacos or fajitas. I've been vegan for a long time and never had a product quite like this. Can't wait to eat it again tomorrow.
