Texture kills it
From Melissa of Biloxi, Mississippi on .
I was very excited to eat these! I haven’t had beef in years, but I can promise you this shouldn’t have the audacity to be labeled Beef anything. It’s mushy and the flavor is almost exactly like soy/tofu. You’d have to mask this with something of strong seasoning or sauce to maybe give it flavor.
delishous

I love these and I use them in so many dishes and they never disappoint, they work so good as chopped steakless bits in dishes, love them!!!!!
The best beef-not
From KoolVeg of Jarratt, Virginia on .
These are my favorite from Gardein. I bake them in my toaster oven for 10 minutes and they are perfect.
Great baked in toaster oven

Surprised to see people having trouble with mushy or disintegrating Gardein beef tips. I have always just baked them on a pan all by themselves in a toaster/convection oven and have never had that problem. I eat them by themselves.
Maybe you should cook them first in a little oven or pan before adding to your more complex concoctions?
Just found a bag buried in my big freezer, have no idea how old they are but I’m eating them!!!
Shookedt

I've tried cooking them twice now and each time I've to almost burn the house down just to get the texture to not be mush-like. I love the other Gardien products I've tried, but i wont be purchasing these again.
Absolute fav faux meat

These remind me of beef tenderloin! I cook them like you would for beef burgundy and they are fantastic. A quick way of cooking them though is just with some liquid aminos, onions and mushrooms. These are a treat for me.
Good taste, bad results..
From grove2014 of Walla Walla, Washington on .
The taste and texture are spot on. But this was not the first time that a Gardein product had me running to the bathroom afterwards with abd. pain and diarrhea. I wonder what it is in them? I have tried and tolerated a lot of other meat alternatives without issue but it always seems to be Gardein products that have me in the toilet. Anyone else get a similar reaction from your body?
Eh

These were okay. Not that good. But they were cooked by my cousin for me who is a non vegan/vegetarian. She didn't like them at all. I think it's the way she cooked them made them taste weird lol. The texture is okay though.
Wonderful !!

I first tried these buying from Walmart. They were expensive but ok, if it's good it's worth it. Was I surprised! I put them in the toaster oven on some al foil along with a frozen vegetable and mashed potatoes, add a couple teaspoons of water to the meatless meat, some raw slices of onion, spray with a little cooking oil, and cook at 375 degrees for 18 minutes. And WOW !! What a great meal! The beefless tips are delicious. I am happy to see I can buy them from Vegan Essentials because Walmart is out of them all the time. Thanks Vegan Essentials!
Luv'em!

They're great! I Luv making beef brocolli chinese style with them over a bed of brown rice. I don't taste the plastic flavor that some are talking about. I can't wait to try another receipe with them.
Weird aftertaste
From Mariah B. of Eugene, Oregon on .
I am a vegan, and I bought these to try to get my family to eat a meatless dinner. Since I have tried other Gardein products I have liked, I thought this was going to be really good. They really didn't like it. I tried it too, and it has a weird plastic like, fake meat flavor. The texture is very nice, but the fake meat taste is just too off and leaves a bad aftertaste.
We love them

My family and I love making these for dinner. A must try.
okay

Gardein is a great brand, I have tried the majority of their products, and I've tried them A LOT, I get gardein protein every week, highly recommend their brand but, the beefless tips is the only product of theirs that I don't love, the strange understaste really bothers them, and to use them in recipes I've always basically burnt them because the flavor just bothers me..I guess it just might be me but the onion in them does help out a lot!!texture is perfect to...
I could eat the whole bag at once.
From Mary of Timberlake, Ohio on .
OMG!!! I made a little white rice, added a touch of oil, onion, garlic, and the fake beef tips. I could have easily eaten this whole bag. Sauteed with a little onion in a fry pan, they're outstanding, heck, they even taste good cooked and without anything with them! I could fill my whole freezer with bags of these, and live happily for years.
Best meal ever!
From Will Bowden of Milwaukee, Wisconsin on .
I sauteed up some mushrooms and onions and then put in the beef tips. Once everything was done I added a liberal amount of Daiya cheese to the mix and served it on oven toasted cheese bread. Amazing is a poor description of how good it was.
LOVE!

Amazing taste! I will definitely be buying more :)
Bordering Magical
From Ashley Urban of Winchester, Virginia on .
My husband and I love these things! We buy them by the case from my job (I work in a health food store) and they're easy and delicious in stir fries. Garlic really complements their already savory taste. Last night we tried them with A1 sauce and we were really impressed. I think most people only eat meat for the sauce anyway, but A1, barbeque, sweet & sour, and Old Bay are even more wonderful on meat substitutes.
VERY GOOD!

Best faux beef I ever had ! Even my meat eating siblings like it. A little pricey for what you get but they are very good !
Delicious!
From maddy avena of willits, California on .
Both I, a vegan and my wife, an omnivore loved these! I sauted an onion and some mushrooms, added the tips, did a red wine reduction, cooked it down, tossed in steamed veggies and had it over brown rice. Totally delicious! Good texture too.
Okay I haven't had beef in a looong time
From Anonymous of Akron, Ohio on .
...but these were delicious! We pan seared them with a little oil and had them with a couple of sides. I wasn't expecting much out of them, but they were without a doubt the tastiest thing on the plate. I can't really comment on their tasting like real beef or not, but they tasted pretty beefy to me.
Not Bad when marinated
From AC of Boston, Massachusetts on .
Since becoming Vegan in June 2009, I have enjoyed so many new, interesting and wonderful foods. I very seldom by prepackaged foods. But I missed the steak tips that I used to make. I marinated the Homestyle Beefless tips in fresh garlic, fresh ginger, cream sherry, soy sauce and brown sugar. Since the meat is already pre-seasoned it came put a little salty. Not a problem, it would have just called for less soy sauce. Otherwise it was delicious. I tried it recently again without any marinade. It was not that bad, but there is a smoke flavor that all fake meat manufacturers feel the need to put in their products to make it taste like real meat. I am not a fan of any bbq or smoke flavor. I recommend this product with doctoring of course.
ok
From Richard Rankin of La Plata, Missouri on .
These are touted as 'beef tips' and are, indeed, shaped like tips. However, that's where the resemblance ends.
The only cooking method given is to sear them on high heat in a stainless steel pan. Even using oil as recommended, you will get a lot of your valuable Gardein stuck to the pan, so plan on having to make a sauce and de-glazing the pan.
The taste is nothing like beef tips at all. The pieces have a soft texture and a flavor much more akin to meatloaf than a piece of meat. Because they do have their own non-beef flavor, that might be a factor if you are using these in a specific recipe. I used them in spicy orange 'beef' and broccoli and the Gardein flavor didn't really go with it very well. In general, though, I suspect these would be more than adequate, especially for things like beef bourguignon as long as you added them late in the cooking to keep them from disintegrating.
